Markert Marsoflex - Dry Couplings

Environmental and safety requirements in the industry are continuously increasing. Consequently, the demands on industrial hose assemblies, which play an essential role across numerous industrial sectors, are also rising.

In particular, risks can arise when connecting hose assemblies if, for instance, it is overlooked that the hose is still under pressure. Dry disconnect couplings have proven to be an effective solution to prevent application errors. Our White Paper provides an overview of the functionality, product characteristics, and application areas of dry disconnect couplings.

For enhanced safety – Markert Marsoflex Fitting Technology

The selection of the appropriate hose is vital for the safe and durable operation of hose assemblies. Similarly, the choice and design of fitting technology are of paramount importance.

“The diversity of fitting technology expands the options available for industrial hose assemblies. I frequently observe that significant risks arise from incorrect selection of fitting technology. Professional consultation is often necessary and is appreciated by my customers. This is particularly true for the complex issues surrounding dry disconnect couplings.” Claus Mehner, Sales Expert for Dry Disconnect Couplings at Markert Group.

Dry Disconnect Couplings according to NATO STANAG 3756

What distinguishes STANAG couplings from other dry disconnect couplings? What makes them unique?

Claus Mehner explains: “STANAG couplings are widely used in the market, particularly in the petrochemical industry. NATO has established standardized refueling equipment to ensure the security of fuel supplies and other liquid media across all NATO countries. They are the only type of dry disconnect couplings that is regulated by a standard. However, depending on the application, tailored solutions are also available to meet specific user requirements.

Pressure Loss and Filling Times

Dry disconnect couplings ensure that the release cross-section is opened only when both sides are properly connected. What is the size of the release cross-section, and how much pressure loss occurs during flow? These are critical details to consider when selecting dry disconnect couplings. For efficient loading, it is essential that the dry disconnect coupling exhibits minimal pressure loss. In this context, the so-called KV or KVS value is often referenced.

The Importance of Proper Coding

In situations where different media are alternately loaded or transferred, it is crucial to prevent mix-ups of loading hoses to avoid contamination. Coding systems ensure that the hose fitting can only be connected to a specific system unit. Coding can be visual, mechanical, or even electronic (RFID/sensors). A potential mix-up is either indicated visually, depending on the configuration, or completely prevented through other variants.

“Many of my customers have significantly enhanced plant safety and personal protection by transitioning to coded systems,” recalls Claus Mehner.
